3 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home

Resolutions are a traditional part of ringing in the new year. Each time the calendar year begins, we’re given a chance at personal renewal and potential growth. But New Year’s Resolutions don’t have to be limited to personal and family goals. If you’ve been trying to find the time to revamp or revitalize your home, the new year provides the perfect time. There are tons of ways to bring new life to an older home or tired décor scheme. Here are our three favorite resolutions for your home.

1. Clear the Clutter

There’s no need to wait until spring to give your home a much-needed deep cleaning. Just after the holidays, in fact, is the prime time to make room for new gifts and gadgets by clearing out unused clothing and random items. Embody the classic saying, “out with the old, in with the new.” You’ll be amazed at the results.

Give your kitchen a purge by going through the pantry and discarding any dry or canned goods that have expired. If there are any food items that are still within date but are likely to remain in your pantry, box them up for donation to a local food pantry.

2. Add a Splash of Color

The new year is ripe with possibility – are you ready for a bold change? If you’ve been tempted to work a bright cherry or eye-catching teal paint into your décor scheme, the time to experiment with color is now.

Start small, by putting a vibrant coat of paint on a formerly drab bedroom door, or brighten up a single kitchen wall. You may be surprised to find that even a small swath of color brightens up your entire home.

3. Create an Outdoor Sanctuary

Your home isn’t confined to just four walls – many of us find solace in our outdoor spaces. Whether you have a large yard and spacious patio or simply a cozy balcony, make it your sanctuary this year. A bistro table-and-chair set is a simple addition that’s versatile enough to serve as a makeshift desk or snack table.

If you plan to entertain guests in your outdoor space, amp it up with comfy lounge chairs, an outdoor grille and decorative potted plants.
